Kommunistiska Föreningen’s May Day celebration in 2026 marked the launch of an active election boycott campaign against the bourgeois spectacle that is this fall’s parliamentary election. On this day, the Communist Association chose to expose this spectacle and instead emphasized the necessity of organization and struggle. Marxism teaches us that the core of the state is its apparatus of violence for the domination of one class and the oppression of another. Hence Kommunistiska Föreningen chose to point to a different path than placing its faith in the possibility of reforming the bourgeois state from within. The belief in a “democracy for the whole people” is a burden on the consciousness of the masses that ideologically binds them to the bourgeoisie’s apparatus of violence, which serves to uphold capitalism and the bourgeois dictatorship. Hence, the KF chose to highlight the path of revolution and thereby emphasized the necessity of revolutionary violence to combat counterrevolutionary violence. It was this political content that Kommunistiska Föreningen chose to disseminate through its organizations on this day of celebration.

They therefore decided to raise the following slogans:

Don’t legitimize the system! Boycott the election farce!

Bourgeois democracy is a capitalist dictatorship!

Fight for a new world! Reconstitute the Communist Party of Sweden!

Throughout the day, Kommunistiska Föreningen held several demonstrations in Stockholm. Some of the demonstrations took place in working-class suburbs, where the communists chose to expose the farce of the election and instead championed the path of struggle. In addition, a march was held on Drottninggatan—Sweden’s busiest pedestrian street—where slogans were chanted against the election spectacle. The demonstrations went exactly according to plan, and the crowds responded with great enthusiasm. Leaflets featuring Kommunistiska Föreningen’s propaganda were also distributed at all major May Day demonstrations. In addition, posters denouncing the electoral farce were put up around all the major demonstrations. The evening concluded, of course, with comradeship, speeches, theater, and, naturally, festivities.
